The Porcelain Veil is the creative vision of two sisters; one with a background in fashion and the other a ceramic artist. The outcome of their collaboration is a sculptural heirloom quality hair accessory for the modern bride.
Carrie McDermitt has a fashion Degree from Kent State and cut her teeth working with industry great Marc Jacobs. Lea Zoltowski is a full time studio ceramics artist who has exhibited her pieces throughout the world, including England and China.
The veils are a combination of porcelain, horn, tulle, gold and platinum.
We met the sisters several years ago during the process of designing their engagement rings. We worked in concert with both Carrie and Lea to create something truly original that reflected their individual aesthetic as artists.
Sparking our creative process in both instances was the work of botanist and photographer Karl Blossfeldt. Using his photographs as a touchstone, we were able to create two diamond engagement rings that are both organic in form and dynamic in structure. Blossfeldt’s gorgeous natural forms are also seen in Carrie and Lea’s work in The Porcelain Veils.
