This old friend visted us today…

It turns out that this old friend belongs to my wife. I’ve been meaning to tell this story for some time - Jay, thanks for prompting me to finally share it publicly.
About four years ago Erin and I brought three family rings to Jay and asked him to incorporate the stones into a custom engagement ring of his design.
We chatted in a room adjacent to the sales floor where we had a nice view of his workbench, machines, and hand tools. He asked Erin a few questions about her tastes, got a feel for her personality, explained the design process, and jotted a few notes. She and I walked out of his shop knowing we were in the hands of a great craftsman.
About a week later Jay emailed us a computer generated image of his design for our feedback. We signed off on it without a single change. A short time after that we were presented with a full size wax prototype to see the design one step closer to reality. It only confirmed that we’d be thrilled with the final product. Modern engineering meets timeless art form.
Jay hit a home run on a variety of fronts: as a trustworthy consultant instead of salesman, as a craftsman able to integrate three stones of different size and cut into a single ring, as an artist who expresses my wife’s style, and as a local shopkeeper who welcomes me every time I stop by for a complimentary cleaning.
I should also mention that this wasn’t as expensive as you think. I still feel like I got away with something every time I look at Erin’s ring, which we already see as a family heirloom.
Jay and his team are exceptional. I rarely make referrals, even to businesses that I frequent, because I take personal responsibility for how they treat my friends and family. I reserve referrals for the handful that I truly trust. I’m proud to say that I’ve sent several friends to J. Albrecht Designs with fantastic results.
If you appreciate fine craftsmanship, go visit Jay on 10th and Pearl. You won’t be disappointed.
